What's Happening?
MFCC Participates in Milton Town Holiday Decorating Competition
This Holiday Season, MFCC was asked to participate in the Milton Recreation Department's Holiday Decorating Competition. The competition was held in two categories, residences and businesses. All registrants were added to a map that was shared with the Milton community to visit and enjoy the decorations themselves.
|
There was an opportunity to win one of four awards:
|
- “The Clark Griswold Award” (first place)
- “The Silver Bells Award” (second place)
- “Best Use of Recycled Materials”
- “People’s Choice Award” (won by community vote)
A committee of MFCC staff came together to collaborate and set up a beautiful display of lights on the front lawn, with the intent to display what we are about and to bring the community to us, MFCC offers so many valuable programs to Milton and the surrounding communities, and this was a wonderful opportunity to engage in some Holiday fun and to reach out to members of our community who may have otherwise not known who we are or what we do.
|
MFCC was the proud recipient of the People's Choice Award! We want to thank everyone who voted in our community, and we are very proud of our display and this honor!

Welcome Lee Barrett,
MASK's New Co-Director
Lee Barrett started with MFCC in September 2020 as our new MASK School-Age Programs as Co-Director, He will be mostly on-site at MASK ensuring a socially, emotionally, and physically safe environment that is engaging and healthy for all kids who attend. Lee has a BAA in Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services from Central Michigan University (Concentration in Outdoor Recreation).
|
Before moving to Vermont I worked for a National Non Profit called Playworks. This organization focused on building strong communities through play (recess, leagues, leadership) and helped strengthen students social/emotional well being by creating safe/healthy/inclusive environments in schools and communities. I worked as a Program Coordinator, Program Manager and National Trainer for Playworks. Since moving to Vermont I've worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington as a Group Leader for 7th/8th graders and most recently as a Recreation Coordinator for the Colchester Parks and Rec department. With Colchester I was tasked with creating and implementing Preschool and School aged programs, directing summer camps and directing two after school programs.

Fun facts (such as a special talent, unique hobby or another tidbit of information that can inspire conversations) I...dabble a bit in VERY amateur photography and baking efforts, got married in an old converted movie theater, was a ski instructor for a number of years, was a RA in College, portrayed Napoleon Dynamite for a College Homecoming "Mock Rock", am originally from Michigan and can show you where I grew up on my HAND MAP (cause the lower part of Michigan looks like a mitten), and had a mix up the moving day when my wife and I bought our house-the movers arrived a day early. Welcome aboard, Lee!

Welcome Teresa Martin,
MFCC's New Early Childhood Director
|
My name is Teresa Martin. I have lived in Vermont all of my life. I am a wife and a mother of two children, a girl named Alexis and a boy named Norman. I graduated from Community College of Vermont in 2011 with my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, and I graduated from Union Institute and University with my Bachelors of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have been in the Early Childhood Education field since 2006.
|
In 2014 my son, who was seven at the time, was diagnosed with Leukemia. He has successfully been in remission for the past three years, although there are still many doctors visits. It really put into perspective for our family how short life can be and how we need to make the memories with our children while we can. He really has shown us what true strength and resilience is. We try to make the most out of every free moment and to not take anything for granted.
|
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family traveling! When COVID is not putting a damper on it! Our favorite place to travel together is Florida. My husband and I would ultimately love to have a house down there when we retire. I also enjoy scrapbooking and crafting.
|
I am so excited to start here at MFCC as the Early Childhood Program Director and know that I have big shoes to fill! I am looking forward to getting to know the staff and families!

Dear Friends and Families,
|
All of us at MFCC are so very thankful for the support given to us by the individuals, businesses, and philanthropic groups in our communities. The work done at MFCC continues to impact children, families, and vulnerable individuals in ways that words alone simply cannot express. When we see the looks on the faces of the children and families who receive our programs support and services, we can feel resonating from them their genuine warmth, gratitude, and appreciation. The staff at MFCC have given so much of their time and their hearts to improving the lives of others, especially in the toughest of times and situations. It is because of the support and encouragement from our communities that lets the staff know that their work is important and valued by a greater community, that they are inspired to continue to rise to the challenge of helping others every day. Thank you to all our supporters for being the wind beneath our wings that helps us soar to places we would otherwise never reach, and be there for the children and families who are most in need of our help.
