Position Overview:
The MFCC Parent Education and Family Support Programs Coordinator is a highly entrepreneurial role, with big opportunities to shape the future of MFCC’s family support program trajectory. The role will focus on strengthening families by increasing parents’ knowledge of and access to the resources and services necessary to address family needs and goals. In this role, you will work directly in partnership with parents, either individually or in groups, to provide them with the guidance, encouragement, and support they need to successfully connect with and engage in programs and resources that will ultimately help them raise healthy, thriving children.
Qualifications:
- A clear passion for supporting families, and an understanding of the challenges associated with parenting. Lived experience as a parent is highly valued.
- Bachelor’s level OR above AND minimum 2 years successful work experience in human services, parent/adult learning settings, or a related field
- Ability to establish positive relations through strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of local and state community resources and services for families
- Competence in technology, data systems, and social media
- Attention to detail
- Skilled in organization, prioritization, and time management
- Participation in on-going learning to update skills and acquire new knowledge as needed
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Some travel is required, must have reliable transportation
Position Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations:
Facilitate high-quality and engaging family programs as needed
- Program manage and facilitate at least one community based playgroup per week. Program management includes collaboration with colleagues also supporting playgroups; partner communication and stewardship with the Milton Public Library (and any other host locations); budget tracking and compliance; outreach; etc.
- Program manage and facilitate parent education and/or information and referral programs as needed. Collaborate with other staff and parents to identify workshop or event interests.
- Includes management of our Hardship Fund allocations and fielding meetings and/or calls related to families in need of time-sensitive financial support.
- Assist with MFCC programs and community efforts to increase community and parental resilience in deep collaboration with MFCC staff and community partners.
- Set-up, facilitate, and effectively run existing programs from planning to implementation according to the structure and standards set by MFCC for family support programs – i.e. Parent Coffee Hour, Little Chefs, etc.
- Prepare materials and curriculum for programs and/or events according to prepared event plans and curriculum.
- Record and track important data and evaluation related to programs.
Cultivate Strong Family to Staff Partnerships
- Establish a positive rapport with parents/guardians and act as an advocate/facilitator for families by sharing information and referrals that may benefit the child or family.
- Communicate with:
- Parents – regarding daily activities and schedule; special events; meals; and child specific information including behavior and well-being
- Collaborative partners – regarding students with special needs
- Consistently provide appropriate support and parent education to families as needed, most often done while facilitating programming or via 1:1 meetings that focus on reducing stressors and/or increasing life skills. Can include but is not limited to:
- Facilitate acquisition of family life skills, basic parenting skills, activities of daily living and resiliency traits in children and adults;
- Provide knowledge on the development of the child; use role modeling, mentoring and research-based child development principles
- Provide appropriate health and safety education;
- Reduce stressors through support for concrete needs where possible;
- Aide and/or manage the process of childcare subsidy applications, or other benefits navigation.
- Maintain comprehensive, high-quality family records through data collection and management, file organization, and in compliance with HIPPA and FERPA protections, and all CIS specific program requirements.
Strategic leadership & community development
- Drive positive organizational culture by learning and modeling the MFCC Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain a strong working relationship with all relevant partners tied to information and referral and hardship services for families. This includes but is not limited to the Howard Center, CVOEO, COTS, Economic Services, Community Churches, local pediatrician’s offices, and more.
- When appropriate, attend community network meetings as a representative of MFCC to partner with other community providers in addressing the needs of children and families in our communities (i.e. KidSafe, KidsNet, Housing Resource Team)

Physical/environmental Requirements
There are several physical demands in this youth-facing role, which include but are not limited to:
- Sit, stand and/or move about for extended periods.
- Actively engage in play activities with youth and their caregivers.
- Visual acuity to read and write printed materials, computer screens and observe students’ movement.
- Hearing and speech abilities for ordinary and telephonic conversations and to speak to small groups of children.
- Ambulatory ability to move around the classroom, playgrounds and assist with play-oriented learning activities.
- Ability to lift children, carry, push and move supplies/furniture/etc. of light-to-medium weight (under 40 lbs.) on an intermittent basis.
