On Saturday May 18th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the Colchester-Milton Rotary will host their annual “Fill the Truck” event at the Milton Hannaford parking lot, located at 259 Route 7 South, Milton, VT 05468 to benefit the MFCC Emergency Food Shelf. Last year, their event brought in 1,224 pounds of food to the MFCC Emergency Food Shelf. This year, we are hoping that amount will be doubled! Please join in on this amazing opportunity to fill our food shelf.
It is unfortunate that hunger is such a large issue in our community. According to information on Hunger Free Vermont’s website:
- 1,699 Children who attend Milton schools receive free or reduced cost lunches (26%)
- 59,882 Vermonters live in food insecure households, meaning they don’t have regular access to nutritious food (10%)
- 17,726 Vermont children under the age of 18 live in food insecure households (15%)
- 9,746 Vermont adults over 60 live in food insecure households (6%)
In the greater Milton community, this translates to a steadily increasing number of families seeking assistance with putting food on their table. The food shelf here at MFCC serves approximately 150 families every month. Fortunately, neighbors like you, care enough to help us help them.
The mission of the Milton Family Community Center is: “To build strong communities by empowering individuals and families through quality, innovative programs.” Our food shelf is one of those programs available to residents of Milton and its neighboring communities.
